RIU HOTEL TO HOST THIRD WORLD BAND'S
35TH ANNIVERSAY PRESS CONFERENCE
NEW YORK, NEW YORK - JANUARY 22, 2010. On Friday, January 29, 2010, the Riu Hotel in Montego Bay, Jamaica, will host Third World Band's 35th Anniversary press conference. The Reggae Ambassadors, in celebrating over three decades of hit singles and albums, will announce their plans for a year-long tour - which will see the group performing in Europe, Asia, Africa, Canada, the United States and the Caribbean - and the release of their upcoming album "Patriot."
The press conference, which is slated to begin at 12:00 pm and hosted by Pat McKay of Sirius XM radio, is sponsored by Turnkey Productions, Jamaica Tourist Board, Riu Hotel and Air Jamaica. Other sponsors include Reggae Netlink, I AM REGGAE, Caribbeanfever.com and Cariblifecentral.com.
Following the press conference, on Saturday, January 30, 2010, Third World will perform on the main stage at Jamaica Jazz and Blues. Patrons can expect to see the band perform hit songs such as "Now That We've Found Love," "96 Degrees in the Shade," "Try Jah Love," and "Sense of Purpose." As stated by Richard Daley, bass player and original member, "we are elated about sharing the stage with chart topping acts such as Grammy winning R&B crooner Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds and Erykah Badu along with Gladys Knight, Billy Ocean, The Whispers, Joss Stone, Monty Alexander, Joe Roy Jackson and the Queens Project featuring Tamia, Kelly Price and Deborah Cox. We couldn't ask for a better kick-off to our tour."
One of the longest running Reggae bands, Third World is an institution that produces and performs music that is cutting edge, positive, progressive and internationally relevant. Formed in 1973, the group has released a total of 22 albums as well as solo projects from Lead Singer Bunny Rugs and Guitarist Cat Coore. This does not include their new unreleased album entitled "Patriots" which will be released in early 2010. They have received numerous awards, including an Award in 2009 from Brooklyn Academy of Music ("BAM"), the 1986 "United Nations Peace Medal," 1992 and 1996 Jamaica Music Industry Awards for Best Show Band and 10 Grammy nominations. Additionally, the group has worked and collaborated with top acts such as the Jackson Five, Bob Marley and The Wailers and Stevie Wonder.
